Hey cheapskaters this was our 100th post on how to save money and live well. Here is to 100 more ideas on saving money and enjoying the good life.

One way that you can save money is to extend the life of household items. Here are some great tips from Graham Haley author of Haley’s Hints:

Patio umbrellas - Patio umbrellas need to breathe. Stretch one leg of a pair of panty hose over the umbrella and use the other leg to secure it tightly. The pantyhose allow the umbrella to breathe which will prevent mildew stains and also prevent any bugs from getting in the folds.

Cheap and Easy Homemade Cleaning Products

 I was watching a PBS special the other day that all cheapskaters would love. It was called Haley’s hints. Haley is this very nice man with what seemed like a slight British accent or perhaps it was a New England accent. Anyway, Haley appears to be the male version of Heloise. He and his wife Rosemary have authored several books – Haley’s Cleaning Hints, Haley’s Household Hints and Haley’s Green Hints. He demonstrated a bunch of them on the show. Haley says if you have vinegar, ammonia and water softener (ex. Borax) in your home, you should never have to buy commercial cleaning products. Here are some of the recipes for homemade cleaning products he demonstrated:

There are so many people to buy for at holiday time. It seems if a gift is convenient to get it is expensive. If the gift is cheap it takes a lot of time to make. The last thing you want to do is spend the holidays slaving over gift making so here are some easy inexpensive gifts to give:

I know that this year everyone is trying to economize with gifts. Many people do appreciate home baked goods. If you are going to make something homemade ideally you want something that is easy to make, has cheap ingredients and won’t spoil quickly.
