Cheap and Free Weight Loss for your New Year’s Resolution
Well it’s getting close to New Year’s Resolution time, and most of us haven’t done a good job of keeping our weight in line during the holidays. For those of you who have been stoic during all of the festivities, I applaud you! I know I have skipped the gym and allowed myself a few more servings than were required by the food pyramid!
Here are some tips to help maintain or lose weight which are free and basic.
Drink lots of water. Keep your body flushed and naturallly control your cravings. A bit of lemon in your water is a tangy treat and also helps flush toxins out of your body, plus it is a great thirst quencher.
Eat a bowl of soup every day. People who eat one bowl of soup a day have better luck with weight loss and health than people who do not. Mom’s chicken soup can cure everything. It is a high water content food, generally healthy, and a great comfort!
Take a walk. Even a short walk is better than no excercise at all. You will find that getting outside will also improve your mood. If you think it is too boring to walk by yourself, or too hot or too cold, why not walk around the mall or another store? Just don’t take your credit cards!
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a price, and dinner like a pauper. Really, studies have shown that fat and protein taken in the morning provide more energy. This is really not the typical American diet, but reversing the time you eat your largest meal can make a huge difference. Besides, breakfast proteins like eggs, are inexpensive.
Graze. Smaller, more frequent meals are better than larger meals a couple times a day. I know I get into a pattern of skipping breakfast, and sometimes lunch, and then eating everything in sight for dinner! My resolution will be to forcce myself to have some protein and fruit for breakfast every day. It seems like some peanut butter on whole grain toast with a sliced banana should be simple and convenient, and help me start the day with more energy!
Keep it balanced. Remember my earlier post for a cheap weight loss smoothie? Well one thing this does for me is to put more fruit and dairy into my diet — things I had been skimping on. Defrost that green veggie and make a nice salad to keep in the fridge. Just do whatever it takes to balance that burger and fries out with some high water content food like fruit and vegetables!
