Dog Allergies and Local Raw Honey Plus Free Recipe For Healthy Dog Treats

My yoga teacher was the first one to tell me about local raw honey benefits for allergies. I just found out though you can also use local honey to help cure dog allergies. Why does it have it to be local honey? Apparently local honey contains very tiny amounts of pollen. These tiny amounts of pollen are not enough to trigger the allergic reaction in your dog when they ingest the local honey. What does happen though is each time the dog eats the local honey, the dog’s body begins to build up a tolerance to the pollen. Eventually, the dog is able to tolerate the amount of pollen usually present in the dog’s enviornment. It works the same way for humans, in case you are interested.

You can give your dog anywhere from a teaspoon to a tablespoon of local honey once or twice a day. You can also mix it into to their food.

Make sure it is raw local honey. You can find raw local honey at farmer’s markets, natural food stores and sometimes in the health food section of your grocery store.

I also found a really cute recipe for Gingerbread Dog Treats that calls for 4 tablespoons of honey. Couldn’t resist including it in this post. It comes from www.all-natural-dog-treat.com

 Gingerbread Dog Treats

Shape them like little gingerbread people. You can use carob chips for eyes and buttons but never chocolate for dogs.
Have Fun!

Ingredients:

1 cup molasses
4 tablespoons honey
1 cup water
½ cup vegetable oil
6 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons chopped fresh ginger or one tsp. of dried powder ginger

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Combine the molasses, honey, water, and oil in a medium bowl. In another large bowl mix the flour, the baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Combine well. Divide this dough in four sections and roll each piece into a ball, wrap each ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 3 – 5 hours.

After the dough is well-chilled Put dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll dough out into 1/4 “ thickness. Cut dough with a cookie cutter into gingerbread men or other fun shapes. You could use carob bits to form the eyes and buttons if you like. Bake 10 – 15 minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned around the edges and firm.

These are great fun for you and your dog. They’ll make great gifts for your doggie friends too.
