Today I found an interesting aspect of early retirement I had not considered before. When you retire where do you plan on living? If you have a house and it is paid for, your decision may already be made. If you plan to move to another state you should consider the tax situation. The state of Texas for instance has no state tax and but does have property tax. Some states have no property tax at all and some have all kinds of taxes. Some experts even reccomend moving to a foreign country because the cost of health care in countries with socialized medicine is so much cheaper. When you consider moving to another place so you can retire early, you have to know what makes you happy and what really makes you unhappy. If being close to your family is important moving to a foreign country may not work for you. If you enjoy warm weather you won’t be comfortable in a northern location. The most successful early retirements are the ones that are the most carefully planned and thought out.
