Save Water – Lower Your Water Bill
Rainwater Harvesting
Now I have to start out this post saying that this practice might not be legal in your state. States such as Colorado, Utah and Washington have made rainwater harvesting illegal but states such as Arizona, New Mexico and Texas encourage it. In Idaho people can harvest rainwater on their property “so long as it does not cause injury to the existing water rights of others.”
This technique is called rainwater harvesting. Basically you collect rainwater in barrels and tanks and resuse the water to water your plants, flush toilets etc. It is not a new concept but only recently become popular again because of water shortages in many parts of the country and because people are looking to save money any way they can these days.
“Storing and reusing rainwater not only cuts down on utility bills and saves treated city water for drinking and bathing” says Marx Hixson, designer of a rainwater harvesting system. Also, says Hixon “It helps reduce stormwater run-off into streets – recently listed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as one of the major sources of water pollution in the country.”
So if it is legal in your state, you might want to consider a rainwater-harvesting system.
