Cheap Easy Dessert Recipes
Here is an easy and inexpensive recipe to prepare from Family Circle Magazine. The main ingredients are butter, sugar, flour, peanut butter, oats and chocolate chips. Usually things you already have around the house. Plus peanut butter and oats are healthy.
It is quick to prepare – only 15 minutes. Just remember to take your butter out an hour or so before because it needs to be soft.
If you want to save time use parchment paper or non-stick foil to line your pan.
Swirl Bars – makes 16 bars
1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup quick oats
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
Icing:
1 cup confectioners sugar
1/4 peanut butter
3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 13x9x2 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
2. In large bowl, beat the butter, sugars, peanut butter and vanilla until smooth.
3. In a second bowl whisk together flour, oats and salt. On low speed, beat flour mixture into butte mixture until just combined. Press dough into prepared pan. Evenly sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
4. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove from oven.
5. Make Icing: In a medium sized bowl, blend confectioners’ sugar. peanut butter and milk until smooth. Pour icing over the uncut bars while still warm and swirl chips with icing. Cool completely in pan and cut into 16 bars.
