Holidays are approaching fast, but you can still buy gifts and enjoy yourself while keeping your January bills down.
1. Compare Prices Online. You can use services like froogle.com to comparison shop and find the best prices on the net. You may still find in-store specials that are better. Also, balance shipping costs vs. sales tax vs. discounts when heading to the net. Of course, sometimes you have to pay sales tax online too, but sometimes you don’t. The point is, when you see those great online specials, make sure you’re not getting nailed with shipping costs.
2. Plan a few day trips around your area rather than that shopping trip to NYC or LA! I know that my own area hosts some great outlet malls within a hours drive or so. We all have fun taking a drive through the country, shopping in unique outlet malls, having lunch at country cafes, and then heading back without a huge hotel bill.
3. Go on and send e-cards instead of snail mail cards. You’ll save on postage and the price of cards. Everybody’s doing it, and if they aren’t, you may pass on the idea! If you just cannot do that, you can print postcard greetiings from your home computer and get the cheaper postcard postage!
4. If you can possibly do this, take a set amount of real green money out of the bank and commit to finish shopping when the cash is gone! I pile of a few hundred green ones may seem like a lot of money, but trust me, you will save lots of money in the long run by doing this!
5. Hit the resale shops! I am telling you, I love The Salvation Army store in my area. I have to brag because I found a silver plated candle holder for $3, and a barely used ceramic hair straightener (the $100+ kind) for $9! I gave them to family members, and they were totally cool with it.
