Save Energy:
- Programmable Thermostat
- Plug Energy Leaks in Your Home
- Insulate Your Water Heater
- Insulate and Seal HVAC Ducts
- Install Efficient Shower Ducts
- Lower Thermostat by 2 Degrees in Winter
- Lower Water Heater to 120 Degrees
- Wash Clothes in Cold Water
- Turn Off Lights When They Are Not In Use
- Turn Off Home Office Equipment When You Are Not Working
- Lose the Extra Fridge or Freezer
- Increase AC Temp by 3 Degrees in the Summer
- Air Dry Clothes in the Summer
- Use an Energy Saving Mode on Applicances when Available
These tricks can save an average household about $500 a year, which of course, you can use to purchase more energy efficient appliances in the future. One other tip I’ve read recently suggests actually unplugging tv’s when they are not in use. Apparently they still draw some energy when they are off. Who knew?
