According to Yahoo News, a La. woman saved up 55,000 pennies. She lives in La., and over the course of years dropped her shiny pennies in an assortment of bowls, vases, and shoeboxes. After awhile, friends started giving her their pennies too. Now 55,000 pennies is only $550, but it is still an amount of cash that looks similar to the presidential recession fix tax rebate we keep hearing about. And I have certainly been in situations where 5 bills would have helped me out!

Now what I think I’m going to do is take all of the change I find in the bottom of my purse, the laundry, and buried in the couch, and put it in a large jar! It never seems like that much when I find it, and sometimes I abesent mindedly just stick it on a shelf, where it seems to go back into that alternate universe that odd socks and half of my spoons inhabit! But I’ll bet, over the course of a year, it would add up to a few hundred dollars!

I hope I can take that change to the bank, and then make a nice deposit to use on something very frivolous. I am already dreaming of spending my change on a week-end trip, a downtown play, or maybe just some new fun clothes! Or maybe, if things are looking grim, the change will go to the dentist or to pay off a bill. However, I know that if I have that change, it will be better than not having the change!
